Disney+'s planned live-action reboot of the animated series "Gargoyles" will not go ahead, a source has confirmed to Variety, after rumours of the project's demise first surfaced in comments from original co-creator Greg Weisman. The abandoned series, which had been in early development with writer Gary Dauberman and James Wan's Atomic Monster, would have revived the cult 1990s show about stone-by-day, living-by-night gargoyle warriors protecting modern New York.

Weisman told ComicsOnline that the live-action project was "dead", though he clarified he had not been directly involved in it himself. Dauberman, known for "It", was set to write and executive produce alongside Wan, with Disney Branded Television attached as the studio; the logline centred on gargoyle leader Goliath teaming up with police detective Elisa Maza. The original "Gargoyles" ran for three seasons from 1994 to 1997, with voice actors including Keith David, Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis, and has retained a devoted fanbase despite several past attempts to revive it never coming to fruition.
