Country star Garth Brooks tried to secretly play a small Denver venue, The Grizzly Rose, under the alias "Yukon Jack" rather than his own name, but around 2,000 fans still turned up and packed the club, leaving many more unable to get in. When Brooks saw the size of the crowd being turned away outside, he proposed splitting his set into two separate one-hour shows so a second wave of fans could be let in after the first, but the Adams County Sheriff's Office ruled this out on security grounds.

Venue owner Scott Durland recounted how Brooks approached him on arrival with the idea to "flip the building" once the doors had already been closed to the overflow crowd. Despite the plan being blocked, those who did get inside witnessed a rare surprise performance, and Durland said the club kept the gig secret even from its own staff beforehand, given Brooks' long-standing relationship with the venue.
