PepsiCo recalls 122,000 Gatorade cases over undeclared food dyes
PepsiCo has voluntarily recalled about 122,000 cases of Gatorade across 37 US states because some bottles may contain food dyes that were not declared on the label. The recall matters particularly to people who may be sensitive to Yellow No 5 or Yellow No 6.
The recall covers 28-ounce bottles of Lemon Lime, Lime Zero, Orange and Orange Zero, and began on 25 September. The US Food and Drug Administration classified it as Class II, a category for products that may cause temporary or medically reversible health effects, with serious consequences considered unlikely. It was not known whether customers could obtain refunds.

Gatorade is a sports drink widely consumed in the United States. It contains various ingredients, including artificial food dyes used for colouring, with some people experiencing allergies or sensitivities to certain dyes such as Yellow No 5 and Yellow No 6.
Food labels tell consumers what ingredients a product contains so they can make safe choices, particularly if they have allergies or sensitivities. When an ingredient is not declared on the label, consumers cannot know whether a product is safe for them to consume, which is why undeclared ingredients represent a serious labelling concern.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) oversees food safety and labelling standards in America. When potential safety issues arise, manufacturers can voluntarily recall products, and the FDA classifies recalls by their potential health impact; Class II recalls indicate a product may cause temporary or medically reversible health effects, though more serious consequences are considered unlikely.
