Gatwick Airport warned airlines it was running low on jet fuel, raising fears of disruption to flights during the peak summer season, before announcing on Monday morning that the supply issue had been resolved. A memo sent to pilots told crews to take on the maximum possible fuel at other airports, and long-haul flights were considered most at risk given the greater quantities of fuel required for those journeys.

Gatwick said a "temporary technical issue" had affected fuel supply to the airport, understood to stem from a fault at one of its fuel farms, and confirmed fuel was flowing normally again with all airlines operating as usual. The airport stressed the shortage was unrelated to the wider jet fuel supply disruption caused by the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz amid the Iran conflict. It follows a separate incident the previous week in which a fault at a water treatment works serving Gatwick left passengers without running water for hours, disrupting toilets, food and drink outlets across the terminal.
