Coco Gauff fought back from a set down and saved two match points to beat Mirra Andreeva 2-6 7-6 (9-7) 6-2 at the US Open, booking a semi-final meeting with Elena Rybakina, who has clinched the world number one ranking. The result means all four top seeds have reached the women's singles semi-finals for the first time since Wimbledon 2009, following Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula's progression, and it marks back-to-back Grand Slam semi-finals for two-time major champion Gauff.

Gauff was overwhelmed early, losing the first set in 26 minutes and winning just five of the opening 21 points, before recovering to force a tie-break she won 9-7 and dominating the decider despite 42 unforced errors and 12 double faults overall. Rybakina, seeded second, beat Zheng Qinwen 3-6 6-1 6-4 to guarantee the top ranking for the first time in her career and is now two wins from a second major title of 2026, having already won the Australian Open in January. She becomes the first Kazakhstani player, man or woman, to reach world number one.
