Great Britain’s women have won their group at the Flag Football World Championships in Germany, moving into the knockout stage of the first event offering qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The result strengthens their bid to appear in flag football’s Olympic debut, with qualification potentially secured this weekend.

Ranked third globally and twice European champions, GB beat France 33-14, China 26-25 and Austria 47-26. They face Panama in Saturday’s quarter-final; reaching the semi-finals could bring a meeting with defending champions the United States, while the top two non-US teams qualify for LA28. GB’s men finished bottom of their group after three defeats and will play ranking matches for ninth to 16th place.
