Gears of War: E-Day multiplayer is so old, it feels new again
PC Gamer reports that Gears of War: E-Day’s multiplayer deliberately returns to the series’ older, more deliberate style of competitive play. This matters because the developer appears to be favouring recognisable Gears mechanics and team tactics over the increasingly elaborate systems common in modern online shooters.
Matches will use four-versus-four teams, while familiar movement techniques such as wall-bouncing are being curtailed. The game is a prequel set on Emergence Day, 14 years before the original Gears of War, and is scheduled for release on 6 October 2026 for PC and Xbox consoles.
- E-Day multiplayer favours classic Gears combat.
- Competitive modes will be four-versus-four.
- Wall-bouncing is being reduced.
