Gears of War producer Kelly McCormick has said video game adaptations should add to an established universe rather than simply recreate a game’s story. Her comments suggest the Netflix film is being approached as a new contribution to the franchise’s lore, while still aiming to respect what existing fans value.

The live-action film is being developed by Netflix with Gears studio The Coalition, and David Leitch is attached to direct while Jon Spaihts is writing. It has no announced cast or release date, but reports indicate it will explore Delta Squad’s origins and their war against the subterranean Locust.

  • The producer favours expanding game lore over direct retellings.
  • Netflix’s Gears of War film remains in development.
