Gentle Monster Review

Marie Kreutzer’s drama *Gentle Monster* follows Lucy, a French mother near Munich, after police seize her filmmaker husband Philip’s hard drives over suspected child sexual abuse material. As Lucy tries to understand the allegations and protect her son, the film explores how revelations about a loved one can unsettle trust and a person’s confidence in their own judgement.

The story also follows investigating officer Elsa as she confronts troubling behaviour by her father, linking the two women’s experiences of living with the consequences of men’s actions. The review praises the film’s controlled atmosphere, performances and oblique flashbacks, which revisit the family’s ordinary life without offering easy answers. The film is in limited theatrical release and arrives on Netflix on 18 November.
