Amid the sombre tone, he offered one bright spot for fans: praise for the HBO adaptation A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, on which he serves as executive producer and writer, and which he said stays close to his original Dunk and Egg stories.

The post, written on 3 August, was Martin's first personal entry since 19 February, with recent updates handled by his "mighty minions." He revealed that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms received nine 2026 Emmy nominations, including Best Drama, with the ceremony set for 14 September at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, though he was uncertain whether he could attend. Notably, Martin made no mention of House of the Dragon, whose finale airs this Sunday on HBO Max, having previously criticised that adaptation's handling of his source material.
