George R.R. Martin is working on a fourth Dunk and Egg novella, according to Ira Parker, showrunner of the HBO adaptation A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Parker revealed the news in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, noting that progress on Martin's source material could help determine how many seasons the television spinoff ultimately runs, with hopes for three to five series. The update matters because it offers a rare sign of forward movement from Martin, whose long-delayed Winds of Winter has left fans wary of promises about unfinished work.

Parker teased that the fourth book, whose title remains unconfirmed, is set in "a very cool location," while a planned fifth entry would mark the last story point of Egg as a boy, potentially allowing a natural pause before returning to an older version of the character for a more politically driven storyline set in King's Landing. Only The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight have been published in the series so far, and Martin, 77, has reportedly given HBO around 12 rough outlines for future stories. Parker also said he has seen unpublished prose pages from Martin, though no release timeline for the new book has been given.
