Jayden Williams, the 23-year-old mayor of Stockbridge, Georgia, has been removed from office following allegations that he exchanged sexually explicit photos with a male high school pupil shortly after he turned 18. The move comes just weeks after the city council had already stripped Williams of several mayoral privileges amid a separate investigation into alleged misuse of his municipal credit card, deepening a scandal that has engulfed one of the state's youngest elected officials.

An investigation found that Williams had messaged the teenager via Instagram and text, including discussion of the young man joining the mayor's mentorship programme, before trading nude images with him late last year. Williams admitted to the exchange but insisted his conduct was not unusual for someone his age, while his attorney argued the removal was unjust and that the images predated his time in office. Acting Mayor Elton Alexander confirmed Williams's removal and said a special election must now be held within six months, while the separate probe into Williams's spending—including restrictions on his access to city vehicles, credit card and facilities—remains ongoing.
