Girl In Red to make acting debut in Eivind Landsvik’s new film ‘Low Expectations’

NME · 3 hours ago

Norwegian musician Girl In Red, real name Marie Ulven, is set to make her acting debut in the upcoming film "Low Expectations", directed by fellow Norwegian Eivind Landsvik. The drama, which premiered as part of Director's Fortnight at this year's Cannes Film Festival, has now secured UK and Ireland distribution and will be released there in early 2027, marking a notable crossover for the singer into film.

In the film, Ulven plays Maja, a musician who falls apart at the height of her career and moves back to her mother's home while working part-time at a local school as she rebuilds her life. She stars alongside Anders Danielsen Lie, and is credited under her real name rather than her stage name to avoid conflating herself with the character, a decision she said reflected her wariness of musicians who dabble in acting. Girl In Red's music has also recently featured in the video game Life Is Strange: Reunion.
