GIRLSCHOOL To Release New Album For 50th Anniversary In 2028

Blabbermouth · 1 day ago

NWOBHM veterans GIRLSCHOOL have announced plans to release a new studio album to coincide with the band's 50th anniversary in 2028, alongside a major anniversary tour. Formed in 1978 and closely linked to Motörhead, GIRLSCHOOL are recognised as the longest-running all-female rock band still active, making the milestone significant both for the group and for the wider rock scene they helped shape.

Guitarist Jackie Chambers revealed the plans in an interview with TotalRock's Stevie J at the Maid Of Stone festival in Maidstone, Kent, noting the band still need to write the record but are already discussing further plans with their label. The album will follow 2023's "WTFortyfive?", released via Silver Lining Music. GIRLSCHOOL's current line-up features original members Kim McAuliffe and Denise Dufort alongside Chambers and bassist Olivia Airey, niece of Deep Purple/Rainbow keyboardist Don Airey, who joined last year after Tracey Lamb's second departure from the band.
