Irish musician and actor Glen Hansard has died aged 56 following a motorcycle crash in Dublin, with tributes now pouring in from fans and fellow musicians, including a public message from broadcaster Today FM. The single-vehicle collision occurred in Lucan, west Dublin, just before 5am on 29 July 2026, the day his death was announced. Hansard was best known as frontman of The Frames and one half of The Swell Season alongside Markéta Irglová, with whom he wrote the Oscar-winning song "Falling Slowly" for the 2007 film "Once", in which he also starred.

Fans have shared memories of his live performances and condolences for his family, with one tribute noting he leaves behind a wife and three-year-old child. Hansard's career spanned six studio albums with The Frames, including 2004's chart-topping "Burn The Maps", and his most recent solo record, "All That Was East Is West of Me Now" (2023). He also had a notable acting career, playing Outspan Foster in the BAFTA-winning "The Commitments" (1991) and the lead role of "Guy" in "Once", for which he also composed the music.
