Michael Shuman has discussed GLU’s third release, the four-track ‘Pony Boy EP’, which arrives on 14 August and marks a move towards faster, heavier and more aggressive music. The Queens Of The Stone Age bassist said the project lets him work without strict stylistic limits, while exploring themes of personal confinement, recovery and the unease of having privacy invaded.

The EP includes the title track, ‘LA’, a cover of Jennifer Paige’s ‘Crush’ and ‘Bombs Below’, an unreleased Mini Mansions song; most of its original material dates from GLU’s first writing sessions four years ago. Shuman said attention around a former relationship with actor Lily James gave him a close view of intrusive public scrutiny, though he believes his experience in music would help him manage greater fame; he also said QOTSA are unlikely to become a stadium-headlining band.
