Prime Video recasts Kratos in God of War series after injury

Variety · 3 hours ago

Prime Video is recasting the lead role of Kratos in its upcoming "God of War" television adaptation after actor Ryan Hurst was injured on set, forcing the production to find a new star and reshoot scenes. Hurst had been officially unveiled in the role in February and had a long-standing connection to the franchise, having previously voiced the Norse god Thor in the video game "God of War: Ragnarok." The setback is a significant blow for the high-profile series, though Prime Video has not commented publicly on the circumstances of the injury.

The injury occurred in June, and the Sony Pictures Television/Amazon MGM series now hopes to resume production by mid-autumn once a replacement is cast. The show, which has a two-season order at Amazon, is led by showrunner Ronald D. Moore and features a cast including Callum Vinson as Kratos's son Atreus, alongside Mandy Patinkin, Ed Skrein and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson. It adapts the two most recent "God of War" games, following Kratos and Atreus as they scatter the ashes of Faye, Kratos's wife, while navigating the Norse pantheon.
