God of War show recasts Kratos after Ryan Hurst sustains an injury on set
Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television have recast the Kratos role in the Prime Video adaptation of God of War after Ryan Hurst sustained a torn bicep during stunt work that required surgery. Hurst, announced as the lead at the start of 2026, had prepared extensively for the physically demanding role by gaining 40 pounds of muscle. Although studios hoped to resume with him by mid-August, the standard 4-to-6-month post-operative recovery window proved incompatible with production timelines, forcing the decision to find a replacement.
Filming halted immediately after the injury and is scheduled to resume in Vancouver by mid-October. The four episodes already completed with Hurst will require reshooting with his successor, though production aims to maintain momentum by filming two seasons consecutively. The supporting cast, headlined by Mandy Patinkin as Odin and Ed Skrein as Baldur, remains unchanged.
