God of War TV series reportedly derailed by on-set injury, leaving Kratos to be recast
Prime Video's God of War television adaptation has been thrown into disarray after lead actor Ryan Hurst tore his bicep performing a stunt in late June, prompting producers to recast the role of Kratos rather than wait for him to recover. The setback is significant for one of gaming's most high-profile franchises, as it will force the production to reshoot several already-completed episodes with a new lead, delaying the show considerably.
Hurst, known for playing Opie in Sons of Anarchy and for voicing Thor in the God of War Ragnarök game, had reportedly gained around 40lbs of muscle to prepare for the physically demanding role and has already undergone surgery, with recovery expected to take several months. According to Deadline, the production's revised schedule involves preparation resuming next month, with filming set to restart in mid-October alongside a cast that includes Mandy Patinkin, Ed Skrein, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson and Teresa Palmer.
