Godflesh preview penultimate album Decay with Living/Ending

Godflesh have released “Living/Ending”, the first single from Decay, their forthcoming penultimate album. The track returns to the industrial metal group’s abrasive early sound and signals the band’s planned conclusion, after frontman Justin Broadrick said severe health problems had made its demanding shouted vocals unsustainable.
Decay is due on 25 September and was largely recorded before Broadrick underwent hernia surgery, although parts were completed while he was in considerable pain. Godflesh reunited in 2009 after a seven-year break; Broadrick aims to finish one final album without shouted vocals by the end of 2026, then concentrate on his Jesu and JK Flesh projects.

Godflesh are an English industrial metal band formed in Birmingham in the late 1980s. Their music combines heavy guitar riffs with drum-machine rhythms and harsh, repetitive sounds, and they are regarded as an influential group in the development of industrial metal.
The band’s central members are singer and guitarist Justin Broadrick and bassist G. C. Green. Godflesh split up in 2002 but reunited in 2009, releasing several more records including Purge in 2023.
Broadrick has also made music through projects including Jesu and JK Flesh. His health has affected his ability to perform Godflesh’s demanding vocal style, shaping the band’s plans for its remaining releases.
