Godflesh preview penultimate album Decay with Living/Ending

Godflesh have released “Living/Ending”, the first preview of their forthcoming album Decay, which the industrial metal band say will be their penultimate record. The new track revisits the abrasive sound of the group’s early work, while underscoring their planned winding-down after Justin Broadrick said health problems had made Godflesh’s physically demanding vocal style unsustainable.
Decay is due on 25 September and was mostly recorded before Broadrick’s severe hernia surgery, though some parts were completed while he was in pain. Godflesh reunited in 2009 after a seven-year hiatus; their 2023 album Purge was widely praised, and Broadrick hopes to complete one final album without shouted vocals by the end of 2026 before focusing on Jesu and JK Flesh.

Godflesh are an English industrial metal band formed in Birmingham in the late 1980s. Their music combines heavy guitar riffs with drum-machine rhythms and harsh, repetitive sounds, and they are regarded as an influential group in the development of industrial metal.
The band’s central members are singer and guitarist Justin Broadrick and bassist G. C. Green. Godflesh split up in 2002 but reunited in 2009, releasing several more records including Purge in 2023.
Broadrick has also made music through projects including Jesu and JK Flesh. His health has affected his ability to perform Godflesh’s demanding vocal style, shaping the band’s plans for its remaining releases.
