Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered Dev Says GTA 6 Was ‘Never Part of Our Thinking’ When Choosing a Release Date
The developer behind Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered has said GTA 6's release date had no bearing on when its own game would launch, despite both titles arriving in November within weeks of each other. While many publishers have shifted release dates to avoid clashing with Rockstar's highly anticipated sequel, Pipeworks and Atari opted to keep their remaster on 3 November, a date chosen for symbolic rather than competitive reasons.
Senior designer Simon Strange told IGN that GTA 6, out 19 November, was "never part of our thinking" when picking the date, noting it fell on Godzilla's birthday, the anniversary of the original 1954 film and the date Toho marks as "Godzilla Day". He said the decision was driven by respect for the franchise and manufacturing timelines for physical discs, adding that fans would buy the game regardless of when it launched. Atari acknowledged it was aware of the proximity to GTA 6 but said other factors, including the release of its game Barbie Rewind on 12 November, also shaped its November scheduling.
