Godzilla Minus Zero has earned a near-perfect 96% Rotten Tomatoes score following its debut at the New York Film Festival, entering the 2027 Oscars race. The sci-fi sequel is hoping to replicate the success of its predecessor, Godzilla Minus One, which won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, with critics hailing the new film as a "towering epic."

Directed by Takashi Yamazaki and featuring Ryunosuke Kamiki in the lead role, the film scored its rating from 23 reviews at the time of reporting. This puts it just one percentage point below Godzilla Minus One's 99% score. The film is set two years after Japan's devastation by war and Godzilla, following the country's struggle to recover until a new catastrophic threat emerges. It will release in North American theatres and IMAX on 6 November 2026.
