Golshifteh Farahani, Renate Reinsve and Alicia Vikander Lead Torino’s Female Talent Charge
Torino Film Festival’s 44th edition is giving prominent space to women filmmakers: 10 of the 16 feature competition films are directed by women, matching last year’s share, and women direct the same proportion of the short-film selection. The programme pairs emerging directors with established actors, while artistic director Giulio Base says the choices reflect the quality of the films rather than quotas.
The festival selected 120 films across six sections from more than 5,000 submissions, using a gender-balanced committee whose members were all under 30. Renate Reinsve, Golshifteh Farahani, Alicia Vikander and Wagner Moura star in competition films by emerging female filmmakers; three women will chair juries for features, documentaries and shorts. The programme also includes a Marilyn Monroe retrospective introduced by 24 women, alongside films such as “Thirteen in Gaza” and “Good People”.
In short
- Women direct 10 of Torino’s 16 feature competition films.
- The festival selected 120 titles from more than 5,000 submissions.
- Three women will lead juries across the festival’s main competitions.
