‘Good American Family’ Renewed at Hulu, With Season 2 Tackling Lorena Bobbitt

The Hollywood Reporter · 3 hours ago

Hulu has renewed "Good American Family" for a second season, transforming the drama into an anthology series that will move away from its first-season subject to dramatise the story of Lorena Bobbitt. Creator Katie Robbins and executive producer Ellen Pompeo are both returning, with the new instalment exploring the media frenzy that followed the 1993 case in which Bobbitt severed her husband John's penis after years of alleged abuse. The renewal confirms comments Pompeo made after season one about wanting to shift perspectives and tackle a fresh true story each season.

Season one dramatised the Natalia Grace case, in which adoptive parents came to suspect their daughter, who has a form of dwarfism, was actually an adult; Pompeo and Mark Duplass played the parents, with the narrative later shifting to Natalia's own viewpoint. Hulu describes the new season as inspired by the "ripped-from-the-headlines" Bobbitt story, which "incited a media circus" and "ignited a gender war"; Lorena Bobbitt herself will serve as a consultant. Robbins, Pompeo, Laura Holstein and Andrew Stearn continue as executive producers, with the news first reported by Deadline.
