Google Beam brings lifelike video calls to 20 USO sites worldwide
Google is deploying its Beam 3D video-conferencing technology at 20 United Service Organizations locations worldwide, allowing active military personnel to communicate with family members. The rollout follows a pilot that linked systems at Fort Bliss, Texas, and in Poland.
Previously known as Project Starline, Beam combines six cameras, AI-assisted video models and a specialised light display to create lifelike 3D images in real time. Head tracking and spatial audio add to the effect, but it is not yet clear whether the USO programme signals a wider rollout.
In short
- Google Beam is coming to 20 USO locations worldwide.
- The deployment follows a pilot linking Texas and Poland.
- A broader rollout remains uncertain.
