Google has begun rolling out Pics, its AI-powered image generation and editing app, to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, as well as Business and Enterprise Workspace customers, several months after previewing it to a small group of testers. The app combines text-to-image generation with detailed editing tools, positioning Google to compete with the likes of Canva by keeping users creating and editing visuals within its own Workspace ecosystem rather than switching to external services.

Built on Google's Nano Banana image generator, Pics lets users create images from text prompts or existing uploads, offering alternative variations and object segmentation so individual elements can be moved, resized or transformed. It can also edit and translate embedded text across 29 languages without disrupting the original design, and upscale images to 2K or 4K resolution while handling multiple edits simultaneously. The app is integrated directly into Docs and Slides, with support for editing images stored in Drive and collaborative editing coming in the following weeks.
