Google gets Henry Cavill to AI vibe code a game, donating to charity for how much people play it
Henry Cavill has helped create *Mustache Protocol*, a mobile and tablet game made with Google’s generative AI tools to promote men’s mental health. The project also advertises Google’s creative and organisational software, while drawing on the well-known controversy over CGI used to hide Cavill’s moustache in *Justice League*.
In the side-scrolling game, Cavill’s character sets out to stop enemies from removing everyone’s moustaches. Google says he used tools including Antigravity to generate 16-bit visuals and Rambler to organise ideas. Through November, Google will donate $11 to Movember for each playthrough, up to a maximum of $500,000.
In short
- Henry Cavill helped create an AI-assisted moustache-themed game.
- Google will donate $11 per playthrough to Movember through November.
- The donations are capped at $500,000.
Steelman: both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
The campaign uses a familiar celebrity and playful game to draw attention to men’s mental health, and ties engagement to donations for Movember. If the sponsorship is clear and the game prompts some players to learn more or seek support, using Google’s AI tools could be a practical way to fund and extend the campaign’s reach.
The case against
The project also serves as advertising for Google’s software, so its charitable framing may blur the line between public-health advocacy and brand promotion. A donation tied to playthroughs may reward clicks more than sustained engagement with mental-health support, and the $500,000 cap limits the contribution even if attention exceeds expectations.
