Google has announced a new phone migration tool built into Android 17 that makes it easier for iPhone users to switch to Android, transferring more types of data wirelessly without needing a separate app. The move is aimed at lowering the barriers to switching smartphone ecosystems as Google looks to attract more iPhone owners over to Android devices.

The new system lets users transfer photos, videos, contacts, messages and calendars as before, but now also supports newly-added data types including a user's Google Account, saved passwords, Wi-Fi credentials and even their eSIM. The feature has already begun rolling out to select Pixel devices and is available on Samsung's newly unveiled Galaxy Z Flip8 and Z Fold8, with Google saying it will expand to more Android devices in future.
