Fitbit is a brand that makes wearable fitness trackers—small devices worn on the wrist that monitor health metrics like heart rate, sleep patterns and daily activity. Google acquired Fitbit in 2021, integrating the company into its portfolio of consumer electronics and fitness services.
The Fitbit Edge represents a new flagship device from the brand under Google's ownership. It is designed to compete in the premium fitness tracker market, where consumers increasingly seek health monitoring tools and major technology companies compete for wearables market share.
The launch is significant because Fitbit has been relatively quiet since Google's acquisition, and this new device signals the company's intention to remain competitive against rivals like Apple Watch and other smartwatch manufacturers that offer similar health-tracking capabilities. The premium wearables sector remains an important area for technology companies seeking to capture data about users' daily health and activity patterns.
