The Gramado Film Festival in southern Brazil will host the inaugural International Meeting of Cities from 12–14 August 2026, as part of its Gramado Film Market. The event will bring together municipal authorities from cities including Medellín, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Maricá and host city Gramado, alongside representatives of Brazilian and Ibero-American organisations, to discuss how the creative economy, particularly the audiovisual industry, can drive social and economic development.

The programme will spotlight the contrasting success stories of Medellín, a Colombian city of 2.4 million people, and Gramado, a Brazilian tourist town of just 40,000 residents whose 54-year-old film festival has helped make it the country's second most popular tourism destination after Rio de Janeiro. Medellín officials will present the city's urban transformation as a regional model, while the wider Gramado Film Market, now in its tenth edition, will feature panels and pitching sessions involving executives from Amazon MGM Studios, Globo Filmes, Globoplay and other distributors, alongside discussions on funding and distribution strategies for independent cinema.
