His wife, Mara Delgado, says she fears he could be deported and is seeking his release while his asylum case proceeds, highlighting the uncertainty facing migrants with unresolved immigration status.

Bofill, 39, was detained on 19 August and transferred to the Krome Detention Center in Miami-Dade County. ICE said he had entered the United States legally in April 2023 but later breached the terms of his admission, adding that he would receive due process; Delgado says he has a pending asylum case and has launched a fundraiser with a $60,000 target for legal costs.
