‘Grand Theft Auto 6’ Is to Blame for ‘Danganronpa 2×2’s Delay, but Not for the Reason You Think

Polygon · 3 hours ago

Danganronpa 2×2, the remake of the cult murder-mystery visual novel Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, has been delayed until early 2027, with series creator Kazuta Kodaka citing Grand Theft Auto 6 as the reason. Speaking to Crunchyroll, Kodaka said the team wanted to avoid clashing with the highly anticipated Rockstar release, joking that he personally would not have time to work on the game while playing it himself. The delay reflects a wider industry trend, with numerous publishers shifting release dates away from November to sidestep competition with Grand Theft Auto 6.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is due out on 19 November, and Kodaka noted the extra time has allowed additional development on Danganronpa 2×2. The remake includes graphical and quality-of-life improvements, a full conversion of the game map from 2D to 3D, and a new story branch called Slayhem Mode offering around 35 hours of gameplay, compared with the original's 30-hour scenario. Danganronpa 2×2 will launch on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
