New here? Start with this

C.S. Lewis’s Narnia books are a series of fantasy stories set in a world reached from our own. The best-known screen versions are the earlier films based on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and its sequels; The Magician’s Nephew tells an earlier story about how Narnia began.

The new film follows Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer, two children who encounter the world of Narnia. Greta Gerwig, known for writing and directing films including Little Women and Barbie, is adapting Lewis’s book for Netflix, which plans to release it in cinemas as well as on its streaming service.

The project is the first part of Netflix’s new Narnia film franchise. Its scale and cinema release reflect the continuing interest in bringing familiar books to new audiences, while the adaptation will introduce viewers to a different point in Narnia’s history.
