Griffin Dunne on Renewed Interest in ‘Practical Magic’ and ‘An American Werewolf in London’: ‘I Seem to Be the King of Lapsed Love’
Griffin Dunne says he is pleased that audiences have renewed their interest in *Practical Magic* and *An American Werewolf in London*, though he wishes the films had been more appreciated when they were released. The attention around *Practical Magic* has grown over roughly the past decade, especially around Halloween, and the film has now received a sequel.
Dunne hopes viewers will also rediscover *Addicted to Love* and *Lisa Picard Is Famous*, which he says have become difficult to find or were overlooked. In Poland to receive the Indie Star Award, he reflected on filming there during the Solidarity movement and on how harder distribution and industry mergers could limit independent, challenging films. He also sees signs of hope in audiences turning out for films and wants cinema to attract younger viewers.
In short
- *Practical Magic* found a larger audience years after its release.
- Dunne hopes two less-seen films will be rediscovered.
- He worries consolidation could narrow the range of films made.
