GTA 6 map leak is “100% real,” say fans who’ve spent years painstakingly mapping Rockstar’s open-world game by hand
A purported Grand Theft Auto 6 map has circulated online, and members of the long-running GTA VI Mapping Project say they believe it is genuine. Their assessment matters because the fan group has spent years reconstructing Rockstar’s forthcoming open world from trailers, screenshots and earlier material, so the leak appears to validate much of its work — though Rockstar has not officially confirmed the map.
The leaked image reportedly places Vice City and other locations where the community project predicted, while also suggesting a substantially larger setting than GTA 5’s. Mappers say GTA 6 appears to use the same coordinate system as GTA 5, enabling highly precise comparisons; one estimate puts the leaked map at about 1.7 times GTA 5’s size, although its apparent low level of detail could indicate an unfinished or older version.
In short
- Fan mappers believe a leaked GTA 6 map is authentic.
- It broadly matches years of community reconstruction work.
- Rockstar has not officially verified the leak.
Explained simply
Grand Theft Auto is a series of open-world crime games made by Rockstar Games. Its games typically feature a large fictional setting that players can explore, and GTA 6 is expected to return to Vice City, a fictional city inspired by Miami that also appeared in an earlier game.
Before any official map was available, fans in the GTA VI Mapping Project pieced together the likely layout from trailers, screenshots and other material. They used comparisons with GTA 5, the previous main game in the series, to estimate where locations might be and how large the new setting could be.
A map shared online may offer clues about the setting’s layout and scale, but Rockstar has not confirmed it is genuine. Comparing it with the fan project helps explain why some players find it persuasive, while its sparse detail may mean it is an early or incomplete version.
