GTA 6’s Netflix trailer premiere was so popular it temporarily crashed the streaming service

Eurogamer · 10 hours ago

Netflix briefly displayed a “Something Went Wrong” message when GTA 6: An Extended Look was due to premiere, apparently overwhelmed by the volume of fans trying to watch simultaneously. The disruption underlines the exceptionally high anticipation for Rockstar Games’ long-awaited open-world title, although access to the showcase was restored within around an hour.

The error appeared across Netflix’s desktop, mobile and console apps, suggesting widespread congestion rather than an isolated issue. Eurogamer compares the incident with Netflix’s reported outage after the Stranger Things season five finale, which drew more than 59 million viewers on its first day; the GTA 6 presentation is said to run for roughly 20 minutes and revealed, among other features, a relationship system and more challenging car-jacking.

  • GTA 6’s Netflix premiere briefly overwhelmed the streaming service.
  • The outage affected desktop, mobile and console apps.
  • Fans regained access to the extended showcase within about an hour.
