Guillermo del Toro has said the forthcoming 20th-anniversary cinema re-release of *Pan’s Labyrinth* was converted to 3D entirely by hand, with no use of artificial intelligence. He said the decision was intended to preserve artistic craft and ensure future generations can learn from established filmmaking practices, rather than replacing human creative judgement.
The film will return to cinemas on 9 October in 3D HDR and 2D HDR, with Cineverse and Fathom 4K distributing versions overseen by del Toro; tickets go on sale on 9 September. Del Toro also teased a documentary about the original production featuring Jacob Elordi, Cate Blanchett and Charlie Day. Released in 2006, the Spanish Civil War-era fantasy earned $83 million worldwide, received six Oscar nominations and won three Academy Awards.
