Guillermo del Toro has revealed that Angry Birds is one of his favourite video games, saying he plays it "every day" of his life. The disclosure came during an interview with IGN as part of its IGN30 Icon Series, in which the filmmaker discussed the games that have shaped him, offering an unexpected counterpoint to his usual dark, gothic aesthetic sensibilities.

Speaking to IGN at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where he was marking the 20th anniversary of Pan's Labyrinth, del Toro praised titles including Journey, Left 4 Dead, Monument Valley, Death Stranding, Shadow of the Colossus and Bioshock for their emotional or introspective impact. He also named Dead Cells as a favourite, jokingly appealing to its developers to create a version without respawning mechanics for older players like himself.
