Guitarist Gus G. has spoken publicly for the first time since being confirmed as King Diamond's new guitarist, replacing longtime member Andy La Rocque. In a video message posted on 26 July, the 45-year-old Greek musician thanked fans for their support, acknowledged the shock some might feel given La Rocque's legendary status, and said he intends to honour the existing music while bringing his own style to the role. He added that he is equally, if not more, excited about writing new material with King Diamond and finally moving forward on a long-awaited album.

King Diamond announced La Rocque's departure on 24 July, describing it as a mutual decision after 40 years together, before revealing Gus G. as his replacement the same day. La Rocque, who co-founded the band in 1985, is now focused on his new project Lex Legion alongside former King Diamond bandmates Mikkey Dee, Pete Blakk and Hal Patino. Gus G., best known as founder of Firewind and as Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist from 2009 to 2017, brings a decorated career including guest appearances with Arch Enemy and Bruce Dickinson; he says he and King Diamond are already working together on new music.
