Gymnastics-Olympic medallist Barbosu suspended for two years for whereabouts failures
Romanian Olympic gymnast Ana Maria Barbosu has received a two-year ban after three whereabouts failures were recorded under anti-doping rules. The ruling matters because it could affect her preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, although she is currently eligible to return about two months before the Games, subject to any appeal.
The ban is backdated to 5 May 2026, when her provisional suspension began, and runs until May 2028. A CAS Anti-Doping Division judge found that the failures, recorded between September and December 2025, were valid; athletes in testing pools must provide location details, and three missed tests or filing failures within 12 months normally bring a two-year sanction. Barbosu’s results since December 2025 were not disqualified, while her 2024 Paris floor exercise bronze remains part of a separate case involving Jordan Chiles, with no hearing requested before May 2027.
In short
- Ana Maria Barbosu received a two-year ban for whereabouts failures.
- Her suspension runs from May 2026 to May 2028.
- Her Paris Olympic bronze remains under separate review.
