H. L. Brown has confirmed plans to return Sheffield’s iconic one o’clock time signal to the city after it was removed from its long-standing home. The daily signal, which has sounded since 1874, is a familiar part of Sheffield’s heritage and allowed people to check their watches against Greenwich time.

The signal was removed after Loupe Jewellers took over the premises at Barker’s Pool and Leopold Street, where the siren had operated for decades. H. L. Brown said returning it would preserve an important local tradition; the signal originally used an electrically operated time ball before later becoming a siren, which sounded every day at 1pm.
