Halsey and Avan Jogia's psycho-sexual horror film "Replacer" is set to begin filming in Montreal on 16 September, Deadline reports. Jogia, known for Backrooms and Zombieland: Double Tap, is directing and co-wrote the script with Grammy nominee Halsey, marking her first lead role in a film. The project has now added Karl Glusman (The Neon Demon, Love) and Juliette Gariépy (Red Rooms) to its cast, alongside composer Alex Ridha of Boys Noize, who will score the film.

The story follows Proxy, a troubled DJ played by Halsey, who becomes stranded in Montreal and falls in with an artist and his friends running an underground radio station, only for a mysterious signal beneath the city's subway system to warp the broadcast and threaten to transform them into something primal. Lily Wachowski is among the executive producers, alongside a lengthy list of backers including Independent Edge, Soft Focus Films and Parce Que Films. CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group are handling North American rights, while Ridha's prior credits include scoring Who Am I, Snowden and co-producing the TRON: Ares soundtrack.
