Happy Howl-o-ween! Dogs don their best fancy dress for spooky street party

Daily Mail ·

Manhattan hosted the 36th annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade, where dogs and their owners dressed up and marched from Avenue B to Tompkins Square Park. The event combines a costume competition with fundraising for the park’s dog run and has grown into one of the world’s largest dog parades.

The first-place costume went to Snickers, a black-and-white Shih Tzu dressed as New York Knicks player Jalen Brunson, seated on a model basketball court. Other costumes included Minions, Batman and Batwoman, Wimbledon players, a city bin and a hotdog; the parade took place on Saturday, 17 October.

Tompkins Square Park is a public park in Manhattan’s East Village, with a dog run where dogs can exercise off lead. The annual parade brings local dogs and their owners together in costume and raises money to maintain that space.

The event is organised around a costume competition, with prizes for creative outfits. Its growth reflects the popularity of dog-friendly public events in New York, while the fundraising supports a shared neighbourhood facility.
