‘Happy Old Year,’ From ‘I’m Still Here’ Author Marcelo Rubens Paiva, Being Adapted As Netflix Series

Deadline · 2 hours ago

Netflix is adapting Marcelo Rubens Paiva’s 1982 autobiographical novel Happy Old Year into a series, following the success of the film adaptation of his later memoir, I’m Still Here. The project brings a landmark Brazilian work to streaming and continues Netflix’s expansion of its Brazilian scripted output.

The novel recounts the accident that left Paiva tetraplegic at 20, exploring disability, youth and coming of age while challenging stereotypes. Amaia Filmes and O2 Filmes will produce the series; Netflix was expected to announce it at the FLIP literary festival in Paraty, but filming has not yet begun.
