Comic-book creator Frank Miller has praised Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, calling it a “fan’s dream come true” and describing Tom Holland as his definitive Spider-Man. His endorsement is notable because Miller has often been highly critical of film adaptations of characters he has written, including Batman, Daredevil and Elektra.

Miller said the film was the “most Ditko movie yet”, referring to co-creator Steve Ditko’s grounded, street-level version of Spider-Man, and noted the appearance of The Hand, the ninja organisation he created during his Daredevil run. Spider-Man writer J. Michael Straczynski also praised the film’s emotional, character-focused story; it is now in cinemas and is projected to open at about $465 million worldwide.
