‘Harry Potter’ Production Accounts Reveal Clue About Budget For HBO Series

Deadline ·

The upcoming Harry Potter series may rank among HBO’s most expensive productions, according to a source familiar with the adaptation and accounts filed by its UK production company. The figures suggest that substantial spending began as the first season went into production, though they do not provide a definitive budget.

Plum Jam Productions reported £130.6 million in revenue for 2025, up from £18.4 million in 2024, when development began. Taken together, the figures suggest spending of up to £150 million on the project so far, or roughly £18.8 million per episode for the first season, but the company’s accounts may include other productions. Sets built for the planned seven-season retelling of J.K. Rowling’s books could reduce costs in later seasons; HBO declined to comment.

In short

  • The series could be among HBO’s most expensive.
  • Its production company reported £130.6 million in 2025 revenue.
  • Reusable sets may lower costs in future seasons.
