Harry Potter Star Officially Confirms Iconic Scene Will Appear in HBO Series Season 2
Rafe Spall says he has filmed scenes with Johnny Flynn and Kit Harington for HBO’s Harry Potter series, suggesting that the adaptation will include the famous confrontation between Arthur Weasley and Lucius Malfoy in Flourish and Blotts. The scene matters because it introduces the Malfoys’ hostility towards Muggles and Muggle-borns, and features Lucius placing Tom Riddle’s diary among Ginny Weasley’s books.
Spall plays Arthur, Flynn plays Lucius and Harington plays Gilderoy Lockhart; Spall described working with them and Katherine Parkinson, who plays Molly Weasley. He also said he saw the prop rat Scabbers on set, recalling that his father, Timothy Spall, played Peter Pettigrew in the original films. The series stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter and is scheduled to premiere on HBO and HBO Max in December 2026.

The Harry Potter stories are set in a hidden magical world alongside ordinary, non-magical people, known as Muggles. Harry is a young wizard whose friend Ginny Weasley belongs to a large wizarding family, while the wealthy Malfoys look down on Muggles and people born to non-magical parents.
Arthur Weasley is Ginny’s father, and Lucius Malfoy is Draco Malfoy’s father. Their conflict at the magical bookshop Flourish and Blotts is significant because it shows the families’ opposing attitudes and involves a diary that becomes important to Ginny.
