Harvey Elliott says he sees his return to Liverpool as a “second chance” after a difficult loan spell at Aston Villa, where he played sparingly. The 23-year-old is aiming to impress new manager Andoni Iraola and coaching staff in pre-season, while remaining non-committal about his longer-term future amid reported interest from Leeds.

Elliott joined Villa last September with a £35m compulsory purchase clause triggered after 10 appearances, but made only nine outings and 277 minutes, leaving the deal incomplete. He said he has no resentment towards Villa or Unai Emery, who explained the situation, and does not regard the season as wasted because he won the Europa League with the club.
