Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood producer, was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Wednesday following his conviction for sexually assaulting former 'Project Runway' production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006. The sentencing concludes a six-year legal battle that has made Weinstein one of the most prominent figures of the Me Too era, with the 74-year-old appearing in court in a wheelchair as he faced the consequences of a conviction that survived multiple appeals and retrials. Haley delivered an emotional victim impact statement, describing how the assault had had a lasting and devastating effect on her life, whilst Judge Curtis Farber criticised Weinstein for never accepting responsibility.

Weinstein will serve 15 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release and must register as a sex offender. The former mogul, who continues to deny over 80 allegations of sexual misconduct despite his conviction, apologised for "mistakes" but maintained he is "not a violent man." His conviction relates specifically to the 2006 assault of Haley, though fellow accuser Jessica Mann, who alleged he raped her in a Manhattan hotel in 2013, attended the sentencing in support. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg emphasised that the sentencing represented justice for the survivors who had shown "courage and steadfastness" throughout the legal process.
